I'm a designer from the midwest, currently living in the south by way of the west coast. I'm passionate about design that helps people do the things they love.
I’ve done this work every day for nearly a decade and a half. The teams I've been on have drastically impacted their organizations — supporting and driving astonishing scale and growth. They operate with processes rooted in the people they were created for and are driven by our customers and a collective creative spirit. The folks I’ve worked with have gone on to own their market, get that investment, win that local election, finally and grow after improving that v1 app, and ultimately connect more deeply with their audience — ensuring success over the long-tail.
I found design by way of music — taking my first commercial art class in high school because I needed album art for my (terrible) band. Since then I've freelanced, been at boutique agencies, big agencies, and worked with product teams designing everything from flash banner ads to brand identity packages to pixel-perfect comps in Photoshop and Illustrator to design systems and component-driven work in XD and Figma.
In my most recent job, I helped Flywheel grow from a small 30-something employee company to becoming part of the largest WordPress company in the world, WP Engine. The design org's work helped us achieve staggering growth (Inc. 500 fastest growing US companies 2018 + 2019), investment, acquisition, and most importantly the genuine love of our now hundreds of thousands of customers across our many products.
Today, I work at Flywheel's parent company WP Engine as Director of Product Design. At WP Engine we build software tools that help agencies and freelancers using WordPress do more of what they love and less of the needlessly technical, complex, and exclusionary tasks formerly required when working on the web. My main responsibility is leading design strategy across WP Engine's products.
Outside of work, I still play music and am an avid DIY-er...I've built a bunch of gear for my home studio / modular synths / and about a million other projects (including a stint doing stop motion). Me and my wife also host a paranormal podcast, Normal Paranormal. Check out the photos below of some of that fun stuff over the years!
